Easter is one of the most wonderful times of the year to transform your home into a cozy, spring-like oasis. And what would Easter decoration be without a cute Easter bunny made of muslin fabric to fill it with? In this blog post, we'll show you how you can easily sew a cute bunny basket yourself using leftover muslin fabric. Perfect for sewing beginners!
What you need for the Easter bunny:
- muslin fabric in two colors
- needle and thread
- pen and ruler
- Scissors
- Pins or objects for weighting (magnets, stones)
- Easter bunny template
- raffia to tie the basket
Step by step instructions:
- Print out the free Easter bunny template and cut
these along the lines. Download now: Easter bunny template - Fold the fabric in half so that the bottom edge forms the fold. Place the short edge of our template there and trace the outline of the template using a pen. Repeat the whole process with a second piece of muslin fabric, preferably in a different color.
- Cut out both pieces of fabric with a seam allowance of 0.5cm and then pin them along the line. You can also use magnets or stones to weigh down the fabric. That way nothing can slip!
- When sewing the straight edges together (don't sew between the ears yet), make sure that you leave a 3 cm opening for one of the two bags so that the bunny bag can be turned later.
- Now the seam allowances on the side and bottom seams are unfolded and the seams are placed exactly on top of each other and pinned. The corner of the bag now forms a diagonal of 5cm. This diagonal must now be sewn perpendicular to the seams. Repeat this on all corners of the two Easter bags - four times in total.
- The outer bag is then turned right side out and pushed (right side out) into the inner bag which is still turned inside out.
- Now place the ears exactly on top of each other and fix them with pins if necessary. You can then sew the ears together all the way around.
- Turn your Easter bunny over and close the opening with a mattress stitch.
- Now it can be filled with Easter treats!
This muslin Easter craft idea is not only easy to make, but also sustainable and long-lasting. It is a great way to use leftover fabric scraps in a creative way and turn them into an adorable Easter bunny. The finished muslin Easter bunny can either serve as a sweet gift for friends and family or be used as a decorative element in your own home.
Have fun trying it out! 🐣💛
