When we're shopping and we hear All I Want for Christmas Is You and the cinnamon stars are already being set up at the entrance, we all feel like baking some delicious cookies for the Advent season. And baking cookies is also a great Christmas activity for children. Most of the time, however, it has to be quick and easy, because the pre-Christmas stress in December often doesn't allow for hours of Christmas baking.

That's why here comes our very easy but very delicious recipe for classic butter cookies with decoration, which you can easily make with children!

For two trays you need:

For the cookie dough:

200 g butter, room temperature

100 g sugar

1 egg (size M)

300 g wheat flour

Christmas spice or baking mix

pulp of a vanilla pod or vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

For the casting and decoration:

120 g powdered sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Water

food coloring paste (colors as desired)

sugar pearls for decoration

And here's how it works:

Step 1: Put the flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add the butter in small pieces, salt and vanilla extract. Then mix the ingredients together.

Step 2: Add the egg and lemon zest to the dough and knead into a compact dough. Then place in the fridge wrapped in cling film for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees top/bottom heat (or fan oven to 180 degrees). Roll out the dough on a floured work surface (approx. 5 mm thick) and cut out the cookies. Then bake for approx. 8-10 minutes until golden brown.

Step 4: Next, mix the icing: Sift the icing sugar and put it in a small bowl. Stir in the lemon juice until it forms a compact mass, then gradually add water drop by drop until the icing has the consistency you want. If you like, you can add some food coloring to color the icing.

Step 5: Dip the baked cookies into the bowl with the icing or brush it on. Then decorate with sugar pearls or sprinkles as desired while the icing is still wet and then leave to dry for about 1 hour.
